Welcome to the Kirkcudbright Crime Writing website, which promotes the crime writing scene, fiction and non-fiction, in the town and wider Dumfries and Galloway.
The area already has a track record for promoting crime writing, primarily crime fiction, and this initiative seeks to build on it. Something exciting is stirring in Kirkcudbright and the wider Dumfries and Galloway when it comes to crime writing and this document examines opportunities to take advantage of the growing interest all-year-round. There has been a steady growth in events featuring the genre and Google cites this in the way it describes the town, an example of which is given here:
“Kirkcudbright is not only a hub for literary events but also a centre for crime fiction enthusiasts. The Kirkcudbright Book Festival and the Selkirk Arms Hotel are among those that have hosted events that celebrate crime fiction, featuring renowned authors and editors. The Selkirk is attempting to establish an annual weekend crime writing course. Kirkcudbright Book Festival has continued the strong representation on its programme. These events provide a platform for authors to develop their craft and for readers to engage with the genre. The festival’s programes includes talks with authors and workshops on crime writing, making it a must-visit for crime fiction lovers.”
Many authors and organisations are playing their part by organising events and this website will keep you up to date:
