Author invited onto panel

Dumfries and Galloway crime writer May Rinaldi will be appearing on the Debut Panel at the Bloody Scotland festival in Stirling on Friday September 18th at 3pm.

The event will celebrate the fact that it is the first time all five shortlisted books for the debut novel prize have been written by women, including May’s Liar Thief.

Denise Mina, guest programmer for the festival in 2026, said:  “As a previous judge of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, I am absolutely delighted to see that the 2026 Bloody Scotland Debut shortlist is entirely made up of women. For decades, shortlists only had occasional women, or none at all. A debut is always a howl into an indifferent abyss.  Sometimes the abyss is listening and it thinks you’re brilliant so congratulations to the shortlisted authors.’

As well as Liar Thief, the shortlist includes books by Frances Crawford, Kirsty Lockwood, Linda Duncan McLaughlin and Zoe Rankin.

Liar Thief is available from Amazon, directly from publisher https://blackspringpressgroup.com/products/liar-thiefand in all good bookshops and libraries. More information on the festival is available at www.bloodyscotland.com
